IUPUI Professor Offers Grants To Fight Anti-Muslim Prejudice

An IUPUI professor is offering to award ten $1,000 grants to creative individuals and groups in an effort to combat Islamophobia.

Religious Studies Professor Edward Curtis is looking to fund projects that challenge anti-Muslim prejudice through performance, social media, dialogue and other ideas.

Curtis says the competition is in response to an unprecedented national trend of anti-Muslim discrimination in recent years.

He says the arts and humanities are necessary to help break through mainstream American prejudices about Islam and Muslims.

Funding for the grants will come from Curtis' research funds as the Millennium Chair of the Liberal Arts at IUPUI.

Application guidelines encourage collaboration between Muslims and non-Muslims. Project proposals are due Sept. 1 and will be awarded Sept. 15.
