Members of the Delta Delta Delta sorority at Indiana University are petitioning their national organization to reinstate the IU charter.
Current members invited alumnae and sorority staff for a small rally on the house lawn Thursday afternoon.
Sorority President Kimberlee Di Fede Sullivan released a statement over the weekend saying the organization made the decision to withdraw Delta Omicron's charter at the Bloomington school.
The Tri Delta National Organization and Executive Board aren't releasing details about why the charter has been revoked, saying only that an investigation found members had been involved in "activities that do not represent our high standards" or purpose. According to the Indiana Daily Student, the chapter was already under "disciplinary review" for unknown actions.
The lack of information prompted sorority alumnae to start a petition asking the executive board to reverse their decision.
"While we do not have all the facts that led to the decision to disband the Delta Omicron chapter, it is our understanding that the punishment and disruptive actions taken against these girls' education does not match their infractions," the petition states. "We ask that the Executive Board reconsider and let us be involved with supporting our sisters."
The petition has close to 5,000 supporters at time of publication. A second petition has a little more than 1,000 supporters.
Indiana University says in a statement that it was informed of the decision and says there are "no current university disciplinary actions against the sorority."
Members are still living in the house on 3rd street, but it's not clear how long they have to vacate the property.
