A county that experienced nine tornadoes in the past decade is getting a grant to update their emergency operations center.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security awarded the Howard County Emergency Management Agency a $27,000 grant to purchase new technology like monitors and a smart board. The equipment will help track weather patterns and state data.
Howard County EMA Director Janice Hart says the grant is a good start to help streamline and organize emergency response in the county.
"It's just baby steps that we're taking to bring it up, to make it a functional, up-to-date emergency operations center," she says .
Hart expects to have all updates made by the end of September.
