About 30 percent of Indiana's school districts are seeing decreases in funding. That's according to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick.
McCormick spoke with parents in Bloomington during a question and answer session Thursday night and touched on the challenge of school funding.
"The number of schools is increasing quite quickly, but the number of students is not keeping up with that," McCormick says. "When you are in a state where the money follows the child, that becomes the perfect storm for some of our districts."
McCormick says Indiana schools are still better off than some other states, where the general assemblies don't allocate additional funding for schools. Many schools have blamed budget shortfalls on property tax caps, which Indiana voters added to the state constitution in 2010.
