Owen Co. Commissioners Fire Highway Superintendent

Owen county commissioners voted unanimously Monday to fire the county's highway superintendent, who is facing conflict of interest, official misconduct and theft charges.

Joe Pettijohn is accused of selling a Gradall to the county through a middle man and making $4,697 off the deal, which he later admitted to police. According to court documents, the county council did not know Pettijohn owned the equipment when he requested appropriations for the purchase.

Commission President Donnie Minnick says commissioners are talking with the Owen County attorney to see if further action is necessary.

Pettijohn is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing Oct. 13.
