Monday’s night’s winter weather brought record cold and record snowfall across the state, and it’s possible Tuesday night’s lows will break records as well.
Temperatures at the Indianapolis International Airport dipped to 8 degrees Tuesday morning, breaking a record low that was set in 1911.
The National Weather Service says that record may be broken again Tuesday evening, as temperatures fall before midnight.
Eight degrees is also a record low temperature for so early in the season, and weather officials say it’s the earliest single-digit temperature on record in Indianapolis.
Indianapolis snowfall measured 2 inches, breaking the previous Nov. 12 record of “a trace” amount of snow, set in 2013.
Monroe County saw around 2 inches of snow, as did Vigo and Vermilion counties. 3.1 inches fell in Spencer, 2.3 inches fell in Bedford, and between 1.8 and 3 inches were recorded in Kokomo.
This marks the second record-breaking cold weather event this month, following a record low of 24 degrees Nov. 1.
A hazardous weather statement from the NWS advises residents of 39 central Indiana counties to be aware of slick road conditions through Tuesday night.
