Indiana University has announced its December graduation will be online. The ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. Dec. 19.
The announcement did not surprise upcoming creative advertising graduate Analiese Causey.
“I wasn’t surprised with the way things are and classes are going to be online during that period. I figured it would just be online,” she said.
Still, she talked about walking across the stage to get her diploma.
“I guess it’s what you always envisioned. Knowing graduates from last May, were all in a similar situation, so it’s just kind of life right now," Causey said.
If the May 2021 ceremony remains in person, students graduating in December and students who were supposed to graduate last spring and had their ceremony cancelled can attend to walk in person.
Causey does not plan to do that. She said, “I’m just proud of my achievements. I do not necessarily need to walk across, I’ll still celebrate with my family.”
A link to the first virtual graduation ceremony will be posted on IU's commencement website and graduates will receive printed and emailed invitations.
