Lt. Gov. Beckwith reschedules Monroe County town hall

Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith has rescheduled his town hall set for Monday in Bloomington to May in Ellettsville. Beckwith’s office said he had to switch dates because Monday is the second-to-last day of the legislative session.

Beckwith said on social media the event has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. May 19 at the Ellettsville Town Hall.

Beckwith describes the event as “an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of our state and share your thoughts on key issues.”

He said in the social media post in the update, “I’m looking forward to answering questions and having a productive conversation!”

A few Indiana Republicans have continued to meet with constituents in town hall settings, despite House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson advising GOP members in congress to skip them.

Fifth district Rep. Victoria Spartz was booed by crowds at her back-to-back town halls last month. Notably, she agreed with the Dept. of Government Efficiency agenda, which has laid off federal employees and froze federal funding for research grants.

Monroe County’s Representative, Erin Houchin (R-Salem), has been notably absent from public appearances after saying she would “pause” her mobile office hours.

Republican Sen. Todd Young recently visited Bloomington for a paid lunch and “fireside chat” event. Outside the event, a group protested the Trump administration.
