Celebrate the wondrous films of Hayao Miyazaki in a 4-film series at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater
Princess Mononoke is the 10th feature-length animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli. It is considered one of Miyazaki’s masterpieces, taking sixteen years to design and three years to produce, with a recorded box office revenue of ¥19.3 billion yen, breaking box office records in Japanese cinemas at that time.
Set in the Muromachi period of Japanese history, the film follows Ashitaka, a young Emishi prince who journeys west to cure his cursed arm and becomes embroiled in the conflict between Irontown and the forest of the gods, as well as the feud between Lady Eboshi and a human girl raised by wolves named San.
