Defense attorneys for former Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent Daniel Tanoos will file an appeal in an attempt to get three felony counts of bribery dropped.
During a hearing in Indianapolis Wednesday, defense attorney James Voyles requested the Court of Appeals review a portion of the case before it reaches trial.
This comes after the court denied a motion Tuesday that Tanoos’ attorneys filed in October to dismiss all charges against him.
Tanoos is accused of accepting bribes from Energy Systems Group in exchange for a contract between the corporation and the school district. Court documents say Tanoos accepted gifts, including dinners and tickets to events.
The judge also granted a request to lift a travel ban that prohibits Tanoos from traveling outside of Indiana.
Tanoos retired last summer after serving as superintendent of Vigo County schools for 20 years.
A status hearing is scheduled for April 24 in Marion County.
