Rolls Royce To Lay Off Hundreds Of Hoosiers

Rolls Royce announced yesterday that it‘s cutting 400 jobs.

A company spokesman says the jobs include a mix of hourly and salaried positions. Most of the cuts are in Indianapolis with others in the United Kingdom. Most of Rolls Royce‘s North American employees are based in Indianapolis where the company employs about 4,600 people.

A company statement blames the cuts on the changing defense industry; specifically reduced defense budgets and greater efficiencies. The reductions will happen over the next several months and the company is offering workers voluntary severance packages.

Correction: In an earlier version of the post, Rolls Royce was mentioned as a car manufacturer, when in reality it manufactures aerospace equipment on a global scale.
