The family of Indianapolis-native Abdul-Rahman Kassig is planning to honor his memory Sunday.
Kassig was captured by the so-called Islamic State while delivering medical supplies in Syria Oct. 1, 2013. ISIS released a video Sunday showing they'd killed the 26-year-old.
Family and friends will gather at Butler University's Clowes Memorial Hall at 5 p.m. Sunday for a Muslim-Christian service. Kassig's parents say he voluntarily converted to Islam while in captivity and changed his name from Peter to Abdul-Rahman.
There are also two Muslim prayer services planned. On Friday, a funeral service will follow the regular Friday prayer at Al Huda Foundation in Fishers. The sermon begins at 1:10 p.m.
On Saturday, The Muslim Alliance of Indiana will hold a service at the IUPUI Campus Center at 6:45 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend all of the memorial events.
