Monroe County EnergyMobile Offering Free Energy Assessments

Bloomington residents may notice a colorful green and blue car roaming the city's streets over the next year.

The EnergyMobile is part of the Monroe County Energy Challenge – an effort to reduce the community's energy consumption in order to win a $5 million dollar Georgetown University Energy Prize.

But Monroe County has to beat out 49 other communities and every household in the county is included in the competition.

To make that happen, the EnergyMobile travels to neighborhoods throughout Bloomington offering free energy assessments to residents.

"The whole idea is to make the energy challenge really visible, bring it to the attention of people all over the community and get them thinking about what they might be able to do in their own home," says City of Bloomington Sustainability Coordinator Jacqui Bauer.

The goal is to reduce energy consumption by 10 percent by 2016.
