Pence Meets With Carrier Executives In Indianapolis

Governor Pence says Carrier and United Technologies will keep 400 executive and research positions in Indiana.

Pence met with the heating and cooling company Wednesday to discuss keeping the company here in Indiana, to keep jobs from moving to Mexico.

Pence says the executives told him it was federal regulatory burdens that prompted the move, not any state policies, but he doesn't know why the company picked Indiana's plants to close from among its facilities nationwide.

Pence says Carrier has agreed to repay property tax abatements and job training grants, a day after the House voted to force the company to give back that money.

He says the companies exit isn't final yet, but does not expect to see Carrier change their decision.

"I wouldn't say that I came away more hopeful than I went in, but the fact that it has not been resolved yet caused me to reiterate that we are ready with whatever resources are appropriate," says Pence.

Carrier currently employees over 2,000 people in Indianapolis.
