Report: More Millennials Save Money Than Any Other Age Group

More millennials are saving money each paycheck than any other age group according to a Bankrate survey.

The study says about 86 percent of adults ages 18-29 put some of their income in savings. That's compared to just 77 percent of adults ages 30-49 who save.

"Kind of what the Great Depression was for grandparents and making them big savers, [is] what the Great Recession was for Millennials," says Tim Bowman, Director of Advancement for the Ron Blue Institute for Financial Planning. "So again, it impacted their behavior."

Across all age groups, one in five Americans is saving nothing. But 62 percent of millennials save at least 5 percent of their income, while only 50 percent of adults age 30 and up save the same amount.

According to the report, Americans of all ages are feeling optimistic about their finances. But young people feel the most comfortable with their savings, debt, net worth and overall financial health.

Take our survey: how much do you save of your income?
