Scheid Diesel Extravaganza Will Leave Terre Haute After Almost 20 Years

Scheid Diesel plans to move its annual Diesel Extravaganza to Greene County after nearly two decades  in Terre Haute.

According to the group’s website, festival organizers expect more than 8,000 people to attend next year’s event, which will be held at Wagler Motorsports Park in Lyons, Ind.

The Diesel Extravaganza brings diesel truck enthusiasts together from across the Midwest. It has a tenuous history in Terre Haute. In 2017, more than 200 people were arrested on drug- and alcohol-related charges over the course of the weekend event.

In 2018, attendees held a raucous unofficial after party away from the event site after Terre Haute officials denied them a special event permit.

And this year’s event was shortened to two days instead of the usual three in an effort to keep people at the event and prevent them from going into Terre Haute city limits.

The Facebook event for Diesel Extravaganza 2020 says Scheid is “confident that the change of venue will bring a renewed energy” to the festival and that it will alleviate people’s past experiences with “a less than warm welcome from the Terre Haute area.”

The 2020 Scheid Diesel Extravaganza will be held Aug. 28 and 29.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and Scheid Diesel Service Co. had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
