Slideshow: Hoosier Astronauts Gather To Celebrate Gus Grissom

Seven astronauts came together in Mitchell on Saturday to commemorate Hoosier astronaut Lt. Col. Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom. It was the largest-ever gathering of Indiana-born astronauts.

Grissom was the second American to fly in space and the first NASA astronaut to fly in space twice. He was one of three astronauts killed during testing for the Apollo I mission in 1967.

The "Galatic Gathering" took place to raise money in an effort to restore Grissom's boyhood home.

The astronauts in attendance were: Joe Allen, Tony England, Charlie Walker, Mark Brown, David Wolf, Jerry Ross and Kevin Ford. They were celebrated in a parade that passed by the Grissom Boyhood home.
