Over the next couple of months, thousands of migratory birds will be visible in Indiana as they make their way south to warmer climates.
Non-game bird Biologist for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Allisyn Gillet says the process is already underway.
"They actually are going to start now, early September is the best time to see fall migrants," Gillet says.
Gillette says dozens of varieties can be spotted as they make their way through the state between now and late November.
One of the more noticeable migratory birds are Sandhill Cranes because the 3-foot-tall birds travel in massive flocks.
"You can see them at Jasper-Pulaski a fish and wildlife area up north. Sometimes in a day they'll get around 20 thousand birds, we have had peaks of 40 thousand birds, imagine the sky being covered, blackened by birds," she says.
The cranes can be seen in the state between early October and December.
