Monroe Co. COVID-19 Case Count Rising — And More Cases Expected

The Indiana State Department of Health now says Monroe County has three confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.

The ISDH reported this morning they are among the 259 total cases in the state, which have resulted in seven deaths. None of the deaths have been in Monroe County.

Penny Caudill from the Monroe County Health Department says the county can expect the number of confirmed cases to rise as testing for the coronavirus continues.

She says it’s important to remember that the state health department reports confirmed cases according to official county of residence. She adds “because Monroe County is a regional hub for medical services, some locally diagnosed cases may not be local residents,” so they would not be classified as Monroe County cases.

Caudill also says the Monroe County Health Department works closely with other county health departments on reporting protocols because Monroe County has many part-time student residents who may have another county listed as their official residence.
