Bloomington Housing Authority officials are speaking out against funding cuts that affect Hoosier homeowners and landlords.

The Trump administration this week ended grant funding used by the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana.

The grant came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, also known as HUD.

Commissioners of the Bloomington Housing Authority released a letter Wednesday stating funding cuts could jeopardize local development programs such as the Chandler Early Learning Center and Kohr Community Flats - both of which rely on funding from HUD grants.

Commissioners also want housing research and resources removed in recent weeks restored to HUD websites.

“The removal of these valuable resources does not result in any cost savings to taxpayers,” commissioners said in the letter. “The Bloomington Housing Authority remains committed to carrying out our mission to strengthen opportunity – beginning but not ending with housing and to meet HUD’s mission to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.”
