Future visitors to a popular southwestern Indiana birdwatching site can expect to see new exhibits about its wetland, grassland, and agricultural habitats.
The Duke Energy Foundation recently awarded the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation a $20,000 grant to create the exhibits at the visitor center of the Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area near Linton in Greene County. The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reports the exhibits are expected to be in place by spring 2020.
More than 260 bird species, including federally endangered whooping cranes, have been documented at Goose Pond, attracting birders from across the country. The site draws about 12,000 wildlife watchers each year.
Angie Haywood, director of education and outreach for the Indiana Division of Fish & Wildlife, says the exhibits will improve guest experiences.
