Mother Of Fallen Indiana Marine Says Her Son Loved Making People Laugh

Sanchez’s body arrived Sunday at Grissom Air Reserve Base near Peru.
Sanchez’s body arrived Sunday at Grissom Air Reserve Base near Peru.

A Logansport, Indiana soldier was among the 13 U.S. troops killed in a suicide bombing last week in Afghanistan.

The mother of Marine Corporal Humberto Sanchez says her son was a trouble-maker growing up - even earning the nickname Piranha. But she says he was a happy kid who loved making people laugh.

His parents divorced when he was 6-years-old and his mother Coral Briseno told Indiana Newsdesk's Joe Hren during a Zoom interview Thursday - her son and daughter mean everything.

"My mom told me to save people, and that's what I'm going to do," Briseno says was one of their last conversations.

The family has set up memorial and scholarship fund-raisers at Security Federal Bank or through the Cass County Community Foundation or their gofundme account.
