Students in the Monroe County Community School Corporation will have the option of continuing remote learning for the 2021-22 school year through the “I Am MCCSC Online” program. Here's what we know so far:
-
Because of a waiver from the Indiana State Department of Education, MCCSC can report instructional minutes instead of instructional days.
-
Bloomington High School North and South graduates are each allowed two guests for the in-person outdoor ceremony.
-
New MCCSC Superintendent Jeff Hauswald knows that many people with a stake in public education have questions about his plans for leading the corporation, but he just does not have many specific answers to give them.
-
Hauswald, who currently serves as the Kokomo School Corporation superintendent, will take over for MCCSC Superintendent Judith DeMuth on July 1.
-
Newborns through 5-year-olds can be registered and receive one age-appropriate book in the mail every month.
-
Some families have called for the state to cancel standardized testing, while officials say learning loss due to remote schooling makes the tests more important than ever.
-
Parents and school officials have called for Indiana to cancel standardized testing, saying learning loss during the remote schooling renders the assessments useless.
-
Despite widespread calls to cancel standardized testing as they were last fall, the annual student assessment remains a federal and state requirement.
-
It’s up to Indiana school districts to decide if they want to charge textbook and laptop fees to students’ families. MCCSC is one school corporation that does.
